Help Pass the Dream Act!!!

The Dream Act is the only hope for illegal immigrants to attend college with federal aid and most importantly, they would have a chance to apply for permanent residence in the United States. It truly is the greatest wish that undocumented students can possibly ask for. It provides these students with every possibility and every chance to go to school, work, and live in this country. The Dream Act can set laws that are flexible and guarantee students an equal chance to achieve the American Dream. It would allow students who have lived in the country since age the age of 15 to apply for conditional legal residence after graduating from high school. They would then be able to work and pay in-state college tuition rates. This proposed legislation bill will potentially help 360,000 undocumented high school graduates and higher education would become available for an estimated 715,000 undocumented students from the ages of 5 and 17. It is important for these students to receive a higher education as they are the future of America.

I hope that my words and ideas throughout this blog has influenced at least one reader. That is my goal. To provide new ideas and teach people about the importance of the Dream Act and the affect that it has to these students who continue to live in fear of deportation everyday. I think it's about time to assure them the safety that they deserve as they are not criminals. I hope America can be what it once was. I hope that we can all come together and unite as one instead of having two types of students in school. Education will forever bring prosperity and success so it does not make sense to take that away from anyone, no matter where they are from. Dream, Hope, Change

Dream, Hope, and Change is the three step process toward success and undocumented high school graduates all over the US have completed the first two steps. With President Obama promising the undocumented student community with immigration reform, the third and final step (change) will be completed as well. The only problem is not knowing exactly when Obama will deal with immigration reform. So far during his presidency, he has only concentrated on other major issues such as health care and the wars overseas. As the wait of the Dream Act is nearly over, many undocumented students are becoming restless with the President. Some think that he has taken too long and may be forgetting about his promise. These students have every right to be concerned, I mean it's not like they have waited a short time for this to pass. It's been almost a decade without considerable immigration reform. They have waited long enough and it really is time for this administration to do something about it. The passing of the Dream Act will give thousands of students the opening door to a successful career. The huge message during Obama's campaign was to bring a brighter future and nothing could elaborate that saying more than the passing of the Dream Act. Actions speak louder than words, so let's see some change Obama. The students are still patiently waiting for their chance. Give them the chance to prosper in this country!

Dream Act Students

This is a great example of exactly who the Dream Act would affect if it be passed in the next few months. This student received scholarships from some of the most elite colleges around the country but unfortunately she was unable to accept these scholarships, as she was not allowed. Many Dream Act students share a similar story, where they have accomplished every possible goal academically but are not able to further their education in college. I wish that all the ignorant Americans that are against the Dream Act would understand is that this is the future of our country and it is very important to not waste the potential that is available. Instead of pursuing her dreams, she along with many others, are left to live in fear of deportation. Sometimes patience can only last so long and it is not fair to force these students to sit around and wait for their fate in this country. America should provide assistance to these students because without the Dream Act, it looks like there are two separate forms of education and you can see a lack of unity among the younger generation. This is a serious problem. The Dream Act is the greatest wish that undocumented students could possibly hope for and until Obama keeps his promise to pass immigration reform, they will be forced to keep waiting.

Students Facing Deporation

While the Dream Act is still pending, many undocumented students are fearing for their lives. Many Americans who are against the bill do not realize how stressing this can be for students who may be facing deportation. They do not realize that it is not the fault of the students who are just trying to adapt to the American culture. The Dream Act is set to build character and it is only meant for students who are dedicated to learn and succeed in this country. The students benefiting from this bill are students who have come to the US from a young age and who have graduated from high school. The fact that they have come this far to graduate from secondary schooling shows the passion and the will for success. An issue that is not discussed often enough is the fact that the situations undocumented students are faced with are often the cause of emotional distress and depression in many of these students. Undocumented students consider themselves as Americans and see no major difference between other classmates and themselves, yet they treated differently by the government and society because they do not own a social security number. Stop the Dream Act?

It really does make me wonder why the Dream Act has been pending for so long. Are Americans really that inconsiderate to disallow a certain group of people to pursue the American Dream? Because that is their only goal. America was once a land of hope and opportunity and it was a place where anyone could come to try to better their lives. For a long time, people all around the world from developing countries look to the United States for a better chance to succeed and if the Dream Act is never passed, the pursuit of the American Dream would come to an end. Many Americans who are against the Dream Act say that it will significantly increase illegal immigration but in the last 20 years, immigration has increased dramatically in the United States and who is to say that one legislation bill will cause even more. It's not a fair argument when you look at how many people have already come here in recent years. As I said before, immigration will forever continue and it is almost impossible to stop immigration. Most importantly, undocumented students are not treated fairly and the Dream Act is the only solution for higher education. This is an example of how the Dream Act is portrayed by ignorant Americans around the country...

The Opposing Side

Even though the passing of the Dream Act is strongly supported by many undocumented students and major sponsors including Microsoft and College Board, Americans around the country are against the notion of undocumented immigration. Too many Americans believe that these people are harmful and that they will threaten the US economy by taking away jobs. But what most Americans fail to realize is if undocumented students receive higher education and can truly prosper in this country, our economy will grow strong and employment rates will not be as high as they are now. It really does not matter where these students are from, the fact is that they can provide a lot for this country. Too many ignorant Americans focus on where they came from and how they got here when at the same time, the students are the ones who are being forced to suffer without a higher education or a job. If you really think about the student situation, it really isn't their fault as to the reason why they are here. Why should they be punished for a crime they did not commit? And if they are not allowed to go to college, what else are they supposed to do? Immigration will forever continue so it does not make sense to limit their rights as well.

The Importance of the Dream Act

The Dream Act is important in many different ways because undocumented students will be able to shine at their highest potential and bring a real difference to the United States economy. Once the Dream Act is passed, work will become available for many students, which will help them provide for their families as well as themselves. Also, it will give undocumented students a chance to apply for permanent residence, which is the ultimate goal as these students fear deportation everyday. The Dream Act is the greatest opportunity for undocumented students to attend college, work and live in this country. This bill is only for high school graduates who are dedicated to change their life by working and making a living in the US. Many Americans think that the only people that will benefit from this will be from the Latino community, but this is a false accusation. The students that will benefit from the Dream Act are those who have come to America from a young age and worked hard to accomplish every possible achievement in school. Once these students graduate from college, they are left with nothing because they do not have a social security number to prove that they are a citizen. This is obviously not their fault. They should not be punished for a mistake that was made by their parents many years ago. The Dream Act would help undocumented students who are basically Americans themselves. These students are desperately trying to rally together to encourage the government to pass the Dream Act and I think it is finally time that their voices be heard.

A Broken Promise?

The Dream Act is the most important form of immigration reform that is still strongly being requested by many undocumented immigrants across this country. President Obama has publicly expressed his desire to pass the Dream Act but so far during his presidency, he has failed to meet these requests and many undocumented students are becoming restless. This legislation bill has been pending for almost a decade and many of these students are tired of waiting and living in fear. Seeing how Obama has completely ignored the issue, many are starting to feel concerned as to when he is going to act appropriately and keep the promise that was made during his presidential campaign. In my opinion, President Obama has taken far too long dealing with immigration reform. In the video, he clearly states that this issue must be resolved immediately but it's almost 2010 and still there is nothing. Even though he has only been in office for almost a year and with all of the other issues that he must deal with, more lengthy delay on this issue might be costly in the long run. Many American citizens do not understand how important the Dream Act can be for the United States. The amount of undocumented immigrants will continue to grow so it wouldn't make sense to leave them with nothing. Passing the Dream Act is as important as any other domestic issue that Obama must deal with so why does it make sense to wait any longer?

What is the Dream Act?

Illegal immigration has been one of the most debated topics in the United States for a long period of time. As the number of immigrants will forever grow, the optimism and hope to one day achieving the American Dream will always continue. This land of opportunity, however, has quickly turned into a land of fear and discrimination, as many illegal immigrants fear deportation every day. The struggles of illegal immigrants will never diminish and it has become apparent to the younger generation, who face fear and discrimination in their journey to attend college. Under current law in the United States today, undocumented students are allowed to attend primary and secondary schools but cannot further their education in college. Many of the struggles for undocumented high school graduates deal with high college rates by being forced to pay out-of-state tuition without any federal financial aid from the government. However, there is one glimpse of hope for undocumented students, the Dream Act (The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors), which is a legislation bill that has been pending since 2001. Many major corporations and sponsors, including College Board support the Dream act, as it can potentially bring hope and opportunity to about 360,000 undocumented students in the United States. According to College Board, the Dream Act is the greatest wish that undocumented students can possibly ask for because it provides students with every possible chance to go to school, work and live in this country. In my opinion, it is essential to pass this act because the students being effected by this act have much potential to succeed in this country. If these students are deported, it would more difficult to pursue a career, especially since they have lived their whole lives in America. These students are basically American, but without a social security number. The Dream Act needs to be passed as soon as possible and President Obama has promised to pass immigration reform.

A New Direction

Much of America does not have a clue what the Dream Act is all about and how essential it really is for the future of our country. This is why I am starting this blog to really try to spread the word about the Dream Act and inform people about the great qualities that it includes. The Dream Act has been a pending legislation bill since 2001 which would allow undocumented students attend college without the fear of deportation. Undocumented students in America today are only allowed to receive primary and secondary education, which means by the time they graduate high school they are at a dead end with absolutely no hope or future ahead of them. As a college student myself, this topic is very important to me because I see potential in every student and just the thought of any student not being able to attend college after their high school graduation is a serious problem. Not many people know the opportunity and change that the Dream Act would provide for these students and in my future blogs, I hope to share the significance in this bill and logical reasoning as to why many more people should support in to be passed in government. I hope people who do not know much about the Dream Act will read my blog because I support the Dream Act and I think that more people should rally behind this bill so it will get passed sooner than later.
